A Seattle search-and-rescue volunteer came to the aid of an injured deaf hiker thanks to her knowledge of American Sign Language.
A hiker discovered three hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail several miles from Snoqualmie Pass on Oct. 5. One of them, identified as 55-year-old Tak Soohyun of Seattle, had a broken ankle. She and her two companions were all deaf.
The hiker called 911, and the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s search-and-rescue team responded to the scene.
