Invitation- Delaware State Officials Launch Fire & Carbon Monoxide Alert Device Program for D/HH Residents (Dover – Sept. 28, 2026)

You are invited to a special presentation by ODHH and SFMO on the new Fire and Carbon Monoxide Alert Device Program for D/HH people. Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, 10a-12p Delaware Dept. of Labor, 650 South Bay Road, Suite 19A, Dover, DE Rooms 140 & 141 ASL interpreters will be present along with featured guests See post for more details if needed.

The Delaware Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DODHH) and the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office (DSFMO) proudly invite your members, to attend our upcoming presentation and live demonstration, “Life Safety in Action: Fire and Carbon Monoxide Alert Device Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.”

The event will take place on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Delaware Department of Labor in Dover.

This special event will publicly highlight the new Accessibility Equipment Program (AEP). Established under House Bill 53, this vital life-safety initiative provides accessible visual and tactile alerting equipment—such as flash receivers, vibrating bed shakers, and alarm clocks with bed shakers—to eligible Delaware residents who may not perceive standard audible safety alerts.

Legislative sponsors of House Bill 53 and state program experts will be available to discuss how this initiative improves life safety for Delawareans who are Deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, DeafBlind, or blind with hearing loss.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters will be provided throughout the event to support communication access.

Crab Theory Film Showing (Lewes – Nov. 2, 2026)

Willy Conley (Becky H’s brother) produced a movie called Crab Theory which will be showing at RBIFF on November 1 – 8, 2026 at the Lewes cinema.

The film is a 44-minute narrative drama. Here’s the synopsis:

At a traditional crab feast on the shores of Chance, Maryland, a group of Deaf friends and family gather for food, laughter, and reflection…until one guest’s simmering resentments and cultural blind spots threaten to tear the community apart, forcing each of them to confront the traps that keep them from truly lifting one another up.

The film was written and directed by Willy Conley with an all-Deaf cast and production crew.  There will be a Q&A with the audience.
