On behalf of Erin Kline, the DE Statewide DeafBlind Program hosts an annual event, the Outside the Box Conference/Family Learning Weekend! This year, it will be held October 9-10, 2026, at the Christiana Hilton in Newark, DE. The conference focuses on supporting individuals who are deafblind, as well as those with complex communication and sensory needs. Friday is geared toward professionals, while Saturday’s sessions are more family-focused.

This year’s conference features an outstanding lineup of presenters and sessions on topics including:

  • Literacy and communication strategies for students with complex learning needs
  • Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI)- what it is, how it impacts visual access and understanding, and practical strategies for adapting lessons and environments to promote meaningful participation and learning
  • The role of daily schedules and calendar systems in supporting communication and language development

Registration will close September 4, 2026. Attached you will find the conference flyer, or you can visit www.deoutsidetheboxconference.org to explore the full conference schedule, presenter information, registration details, and more.
